• A DeLorean And A Flux Capacitor

11296828_1586150111643894_1600456294_nToday was chock-full-of food adventures.  Along with my friend Leigh, we traveled the streets of lower Manhattan, making a few stops at some amazing places.  I definitely want to give you a rundown of the journey and explain a bit about each place we went to, but right now I need to focus on just one: Mikey Likes It.

Who doesn’t love a good pop culture reference?  And who doesn’t love a great scoop of ice cream?  Together, they make Mikey Likes It.  Mikey Likes It is an ice cream shop located in the East Village that serves up 1980’s and 1990’s nostalgia with a spoon.  I have to admit, being born in 1986, I don’t have very much of a memory of this time, give or take five years, but I’ve watched enough John Hughes films to understand why a strawberry flavored ice cream would be called, “Pretty In Pink.”  Let me re-phrase this, to call “Pretty In Pink” strawberry flavored ice cream is an insult.  There is so much more to it than an ordinary ice cream flavor.  Mikey Likes It isn’t just a basic ice cream shop that happens to have a pop culture theme.  The flavors are original, inventive, and D-E-Licious.  To keep people coming back for more, Mikey Likes It changes their flavors every so often, as well as introduces a flavor of the month.  The shop also offers the most supreme ice cream sandwiches you will ever find, made from of Belgian waffles.  SO GOOD!

On today’s adventure, Leigh and I each got our own ice cream sandwiches, a.k.a the “Mac Daddy.”  We had an option of waffle flavor as well as ice cream flavor to make our ice cream sandwiches.  This might have been one of the harder decisions I’ve had to make in my life (I don’t know if that means I have had a very boring life or if I am very bad at making decisions).  Leigh ordered a blue velvet waffle with “Mint Condition” ice cream.  “Mint Condition” is mint ice cream that has pieces of chocolate fudge brownies mixed in.  I ordered a red velvet waffle with “Ice Ice Baby” ice cream, which is a combination of three different types of vanilla (Tahitian, Mexican, and Madagascan).  I loved it!  I loved it!  The gigantic scoop of ice cream, about the size of a softball, was squished between two thick warm waffle quarters and it began melting like there was no tomorrow.  I loved it!  Did I mention that already?

Mikey Likes It is actually celebrating it’s one year anniversary this week.  I honestly can’t believe that a whole year of my life had gone by before going to Mikey Likes It.  These are the times in my life when I wish I had a DeLorean and a Flux Capacitor.
