• Pie Lady & Son & Adopted A.P.E. Daughter

11248406_1078719702141431_720034652_nI recently learned how Columbus felt when he discovered America.  Though I did not sail across the ocean, I did drive down Route 9W and discovered Pie Lady & Son.  It is such a cute little place!  I felt like I traveled through time to the 1950’s or was visiting “Hometown, U.S.A.”  Since I am not in Nyack, N.Y. very often, I have never noticed Pie Lady & Son before this particular day.  I can’t imagine it had been there too long, as I am an avid lover of all things pie and would certainly have had to pull over out of mere curiosity.  Of course, on this day, I was off on another adventure and could not stop inside to see what this place was really about.  I made a mental note to return as soon as humanly possible.

Wednesday, May 13, 2015 I actually got to go to Pie Lady & Son!  It was everything I dreamed it could be.  Everything looks homemade and the signs are wooden and painted.  There are red and white gingham printed curtains in the windows and little bistro tables inside.  The exterior is yellow and red with flower pots, a bench, and a table and chairs.  I swear, if you took away the cars in the parking lot, you’d forget when and where you are.

At Pie Lady & Son they sell pies (obviously), cookies, ice cream, and coffee.  You can order pies to go in a few different sizes and there are also custom order options.  For me, the best part is that you can get pie by the slice.  There were about five pies in the showcase available for single slices and this had my name all over it!  Though the huge sign overhead indicates the flavors being served for the day, my guess is that by the time I had gone, they were sold out of some.  Which I thought was no big deal because without ever eating anything I loved this place and wanted to come back regardless.  I felt like I needed to go with a traditional sample, so I got a slice of apple pie, heated in the oven of course.  Do you know how it was served?  In one of those little cardboard dishes you get at a carnival or fair that is usually filled with french fries or churros.  How cute is that?!

My brain while eating the apple pie: “Holy shit!  This is sooo good.  Are you kidding me?!  Mmmmm.” (repeat for approximately ten minutes).  The pie slice had a super flaky crust, but it was really moist and not dry or sandy like the crappy kind you buy in a grocery store.  The apples were cut thin, but were not falling apart and had a slight crunch to them.  The apple to cinnamon ratio was perfect and wasn’t too strong or overwhelming.  All in all I’d have to say this was one of, if not the best apple pie slices I have ever purchased.  And I love pie!  I’m a pie person!  I’d choose pie over cake any day.  Believe me when I tell you that this is the real deal!  That Pie Lady needs to adopt me to be her taste tester!  Then it could be called Pie Lady & Son & Adopted A.P.E. Daughter.
