• A Little Pie Never Hurt Anybody

IMG_5274It’s around 9:30pm and I am having a sweets craving.  I can’t really decide what I want whether it’s cake or cookies or ice cream.  All of the places that I can order from keep popping up in my head, but nothing really “feels right.”  I’m usually very good at picking desserts to have and it’s not often that I get stuck trying to figure out what to eat.  I pretty much always want ice cream and chocolate, which makes tonight’s craving all the more strange.  I just really wasn’t in the moon for any of those treats.

I finally get the perfect idea.  I’m going to order a slice of pie!  There’s a pie place on the lower east side called Petee’s Pie Co that I have been wanting to try and felt like this was a perfect opportunity.  I went on the website to check out the different pie flavors offered and then signed into my Postmates account so that I could place an order for delivery.

My next issue was deciding what type of pie to get.  I was debating between a slice of peach pie and a slice of cherry pie.  I actually texted my mom and asked her what I should get because I was having such a hard time making a decision!  Her answer was peach, so I added it to my shopping cart.  The option of toppings came up as well and I had the chance to choose between a few ice cream flavors and whipped cream.  Decisions!  Decisions!  I went with the whipped cream, the large size of course.

I was about to check out and realized that the Postmates delivery fee was actually more than the slice of pie was going to cost.  Well, that sucked!  But, I was in the mood for pie soooooo bad at that point.  So, I did what any normal person would do.  I decided to order two slices of pie so that my food order would cost more than the delivery fee!  I got the peach slice and the cherry slice, both of them with large whipped cream toppings.

When I think about it now, I guess it doesn’t really make sense to spend more money on the whole order.  Except for the fact that this pie was so fantastic that I ended up eating both slices tonight.  Granted the pieces weren’t huge, they were still a pretty decent size.  Both the peach and the cherry fillings are made with fresh fruit and you can taste the difference between that and the canned stuff.  Neither one was too sweet or too tart.  But the crust……. flaky and buttery and delicious.  The crust held together on a fork, but was flaky enough that it didn’t have that gluey texture.  It almost had the consistency of a biscuit.  Let’s just say it was so good that I started to press my fingers onto the plate to try to pick up any left over crumbs.  I wonder how many slices are in a full pie?  It can’t possibly be THAT much bigger than the two slices I ate tonight.  Maybe I’ll just order a whole pie next time.  A little pie never hurt anybody!
