• Deep Fried Marshmallow Recipe

11418991_1661525097404440_767925545_nThis is another crazy creation that my mom and I made last night, Wednesday July 22, 2015. I saw the idea on @FOODBEAST’s Instagram account, as there was a video posted not too long ago showing how to make deep fried marshmallows. The recipe that my mom and I came up was based on the concept of this video, but we really experimented with the ingredients to come up with our own concoction. The end result of this deep fried marshmallow was actually pretty delicious. I think there are a few kinks still needing to be worked out for future attempts, but in all, I’d say it was a successful stay-at-home adventure.

    Ingredients (makes approximately 4 servings)

    • 4 jumbo marshmallows (or 8 regular marshmallows)

    • 1/2 Cup chocolate chips

    • 3/4 Cup crushed graham crackers

    • 1/2 Cup crushed Oreos

    • 1 egg (beaten)

    • Non-stick cooking spray

    • 3 Cups vegetable oil

    Directions

    • Heat oil in saucepan on stove top on medium/high heat (do not make the oil too hot too fast or else it will burn).

    • On a paper plate, combine the crushed graham crackers and Oreos until mixed well.

    • Using the back of a fork or spoon, poke a hole through the top of each marshmallow.  Make the hole doesn’t go all the way through both ends, but is deeper than halfway.

    • Stuff the center of each marshmallow with chocolate chips.  You should be able to flip the marshmallow over without the chips falling out (remove any chips that do fall out, it might be too full).

    • Spray each marshmallow with non-stick cooking spray and roll them in the graham cracker and Oreo mix.  Most likely the dry ingredients won’t stay attached to the marshmallow very well, but it will have a light coating.  This will help with the removal of the marshmallows from the saucepan and wire skimmer.

    • Roll each marshmallow in the beaten egg and again in the graham cracker and Oreo mix.  This time, make sure the entire marshmallow is covered.

    • The marshmallows go into the oil individually, for about 5 seconds.  If the marshmallow doesn’t fry on one side, flip it for another 3 seconds.

    • In order to avoid a hot oil burn, I recommend putting a single marshmallow on a wire skimmer and then placing it into the saucepan.  The marshmallow cooks extremely quickly and it is best not to remove it from the wire skimmer at all, just dip it in the oil and pop it right out.

    • Immediately remove the marshmallow from the wire skimmer and put directly onto a plate.  Repeat frying steps until each marshmallow is done.  Enjoy you’re snack!

**Some things to keep in mind**

    • My mom and I only made this recipe once, so frying time is approximate and will depend on the temperature of your oil.

    • You can coat the marshmallows with any kind of toppings you want.  As long as you think it will taste good fried (although, everything tastes good fried).

    • It is best to eat the marshmallows within a couple of minutes of removal from being fried.  The longer the marshmallows sit out, the faster they cool and harden.

    • When you are done, immediately put the saucepan and wire skimmer in boiling water to avoid the marshmallow reside from sticking to the metal.
