• Pick Up One For Me Too!

12424598_148468182195485_1388477014_nFor a lot of people, these rainbow bagels are “old news.”  It’s likely that many of you have seen pictures of them or read about them in articles for at least a year.  That’s probably because these particular bagels have been around for the last two decades.  So, if they’ve been around for that long, what’s the big deal about rainbow bagel’s right now?

I don’t have a clue.  The rainbow bagel trend just became a “thing” on social media over the course of the past few months.  I can’t scroll through my feed without seeing a rainbow bagel every 20 pictures.  Articles have been published by every type of media source you can think of.  I mean, if Stephen Colbert does a skit about rainbow bagels on The Late Show, I’m pretty sure these are a big deal.  And because of the way social media transmits information instantly, rainbow bagels have become a global story.  I have seen international publications with stories about the rainbow bagel!

What I am dying to know is how the rainbow bagel craze began.  If I think about my “experience” with the rainbow bagel, I’d like to think I actually had a hand in helping to create some of the hype.  Let’s be clear, Scot Rossillo, the creator of the rainbow bagel and owner of The Bagel Store is really the one behind the whole operation.  But, posting a photo on Instagram that has been featured in a number of articles linked to the rainbow bagel gives me a little bit of credit (even if it is 1/1,000,000 of a percent).

Other than wanting to know where to actually purchase these rainbow bagels, there are a few questions/comments that I have seen consistently written by viewers and readers.  A lot of people want to know if the bagels can be shipped and what the bagels taste like.  These are all pretty normal questions for someone who wants to get in on a food trend.  I’ve also read several people asking about the color of one’s poop.  This isn’t a joke.  People write on message boards and in the comment sections all over the internet about what his or her poop would look like after eating a rainbow bagel.  I’ve seen discussions about it between people who have eaten the rainbow bagels and people who are speculating.  It’s amazing!  And not to harp on this too long, but if you eat a slice of colored cake with colored frosting, would you be wondering if your poop would come out colorful?  No, probably not.  So why would you think a bagel would come out any different?  Do people not digest bagels the same way they do other foods that they would remain in the same rainbow color formation?  I mean, seriously!

    Moving on…

Here’s my opinion on the rainbow bagel.   It looks really pretty and if you are able to get one, at some point, you should.  At the very least for the novelty of it.  It basically tastes like a regular plain bagel, though it is supposed to be vanilla.  There are also some specialty flavors like the cotton candy one and specialty color combinations for various celebrations like the Super Bowl.  If you’re actually hungry, don’t go to The Bagel Store for a rainbow bagel at any obvious times because you’ll be waiting on some kind of crazy line that goes around the block.  Each time I have gone, it’s been during the week in the middle of the afternoon and I’ve been one of five or six customers in the whole place.  Though, that was pre-rainbow-bagel-obsession times.  Since becoming such a recent viral sensation, The Bagel Store no longer takes reservations, so you better get there at some crazy time like 5am if you want one. Oh, and while you’re there, pick up one for me too!
