• Enjoy The Trip

11424600_454082948100348_1603322813_nI’m sure you have heard of Pillsbury’s Slice and Bake cookies.  These are the ones that are located in the refrigerated section of the grocery store and are shaped like a small log.  They’re so easy to make and taste really good.  Making these cookies might be the fastest way to eat fresh baked cookies, unless you happen to walk into a bakery when the cookies are ready to be served, but I doubt that happens too often.

I had a roll of the sugar cookie dough at home and wanted to make a “creation” last night.  During my brainstorming (with some assistance from my Mom on the phone) the idea of adding sprinkles or crushed Oreos to the dough came up.  Wrapping the Oreos in the sugar cookie dough was also thrown out there.  The possibility of mixing in pretzels, popcorn or potato chips had been discussed as well.  For some reason though, I wasn’t satisfied with any of these options.

Some time had passed and I became distracted with something else, when it hit me.  I could color the dough!  Keep them regular sugar cookie flavor, but add food coloring so that they weren’t basic brown cookies!  I got really excited and began prepping myself and my kitchen.  Since I was more or less experimenting with the process, it took me a bit longer than anticipated.  But I honestly think the results came out great and I plan on making cookies like this again, this time with a little more knowledge and speed.

How To Make Psychedelic Sugar Cookies

    • Follow the instructions on the packaging for pre-heating the oven and preparing cookie sheets.

    • Divide the sugar cookie dough roll into 4 equal sections and place each one in a separate bowl.

    • Add desired food coloring color (4 colors) to each bowl of dough and mix until the food coloring is completely incorporated.

    • Take one colored dough and divide it into 8 equal parts, rolling it out to look like a candy cigar, and place it on the cookie sheet.

    • Continue rolling each color and place them next to each other so that you essentially create 8 long 4 colored strips.  Make sure to lightly press the 4 colors together, but don’t mix them.

    • Starting from either the top or bottom end, spiral all 4 colors in each of the 8 strips into each other so that the dough forms circles and gently press the dough together to ensure there aren’t any spaces between the colors.

    • Put them in the oven and bake as instructed on the cookie dough packaging.

    • Cool on a cooking rack.  Enjoy the trip!
